Cristina Bentivoglio

Maria Cristina Bentivoglio lives in Hanoi (Vietnam) where she works as Programme Officer with responsibilities for Natural Disasters and Gender Activities at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).


She is actively working in Rural Development area and is the FAO Gender focal point within the UN Joint Programme 2009/2010 in the Risk and Disaster Prevention Coordination Group based in Vietnam. She also works as researchers on socio-economic analysis in the agricultural field (fisheries, rural development and natural disasters).


In the past, she has been working as Project Manager at FORMEZ in Rome – International Centre for Training and Development – on twinning projects in Eastern Europe and in FAO HQs in Rome in the Technical Department for Emergencies (TCEO).


She started her field experiences in Mozambique (Nampula Province) as Researcher in an agricultural-based project with CARE International and awarded, for the same project, a period as research student for the University of Reading in UK.

Since 2004 she worked for different Organizations and NGOs as InterSOS and for the Sub-Saharan Division at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


Apart from a strong interest in her current work on Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation she believes and applies to this field rural development practices focused also on participatory interventions-based issues and indigenous knowledge.


Ms. Bentivoglio holds a Bachelor Degree in Political Sciences from the University of Roma Tre, and a Master of Science in Environment and Development at the School International and Rural Development of the University of Reading in UK.


She is co-founder of Peace development.
